PortableApps.com - Award winning free applications in your pendrive

Posted by: Eric Flores

PortableApps is the big winner of SourceForge's 4th Annual Community Choice Awards. They won directly 4 out of 12 awards, and is associated to 5 other winners, for a total of 9 PortableApps related awards. I've been carrying PortableApps.com in my pendrive as a replacement of the lame and expensive U3 portable launcher from Sandisk for some time and I can tell that it is awasome. The best is that you can us it in any pendrive regardless of the brand.

Actually, the big winner is the USB pendrive, as 11 out of the 12 winners can be executed from a pendrive. May be there is a way of running the other one as a portable application, but I do not know about it.

Check below the details on the winners. There is nothing else to say about PortableApps. It is a great invention. If you work in a corporate environment and it is not allowed to install programs in your PC (and the USB ports are not blocked), you will be able to use your programs without violating their 'no install' rule. I always keep critical utility and productivity applications with me. Why use Internet Explorer 6 when you can use a modern browser like Firefox 3.5?

Check here a list of available application installers for the PortableApps.com menu. All they are free.

Make your own big movie at home with Free Software

As a kid I always thought about being a movie director. How I end up in technology is for another article :).

This article is about Blender the first free open source cartoon 3D movie maker. Blender is used very much in low-budget amateur movies. Some of the above movies took an average 6 month to complete, and has a total runtime of less than 15 minutes. While the quality of some aspects of the movies can be discussed, the Blender CG shots in the movie are quite impressive. Definitely worth a look!!!

Blender is used for creating 3D content. Primarily this means you can make three dimensional images. However, you can also add sound, and make it time-based and interactive. This makes Blender ideal for a wide range of uses including creating 3D models, rendering, post -production, story boarding, creating animations, making movies, creating 3D 'programs', and making interactive environments and games.
